A few months ago my cat Stella went missing when we were out of town for the weekend. It has been really hard accepting that she is gone, she was MY first pet and we had her for 4 years. Jon was bugging me about getting another kitten almost immediately, I had a laundry list of reasons we shouldn’t – namely, that we are house hunting and could be moving and that would be very disruptive for a little kitten.
But our real estate agent has shown us that our hope of moving before 2013 may not be realistic with housing inventory really low due to the holiday season. Who wants to move during Christmas? So I have come to terms with the fact we may be in our apartment a little longer. Combine this realization with an awesome Saturday at the beach and Jon was easily able to convince me to go to the local shelter with him and find a Kitty.
I am so glad we did! I said a little prayer to Stella (wherever she may be) and asked her to help us find the perfect new member to our family. When we walked into the shelter there were tons of adorable Cats and Kittens. Random fact: Did you know that they do not let people adopt black cats for 2 weeks leading up to Halloween? I guess there are crazy idiots out there who try and get black cats and kill them or something as some kind of ritual. Eeew! So we couldn’t look at any of the black kitties but there were still many to choose from. As we took stock of the kittens I noticed one laying in a super sunny spot totally un-phased by all the commotion around him. I asked the volunteer, “Who is that guy up there?” and she reached up and said “Oh, this is Willie”.
Now, you’d have to know the back story here to know why this was a significant sign for us. Jon had a cat when we first met named “William” and he was rad. Sadly, he got hit by a car and it devastated Jon. So when we saw Willie both of us immediately thought of William. Add in that he has crazy sage green eyes, short grey hair, and really cool zebra like strips on all his legs – - we were SOLD. The shelter is an amazing deal for $100 we got Willie with all his shots, treated for fleas, de-wormed, and micro-chipped! They even send you home with a bag of premium cat food and a voucher for a free vet visit. Score!
Without further ado I present to you WILLIE!
